Paris, TN – Rising gas prices and a slow economy have prompted the Henry County, Tennessee Solid Waste Committee to rethink an earlier decision to bid out garbage pickup and make a deal with the current provider. The Paris Post-Intelligencer reports the shift came late last week after the Obion County-based Barker Brothers Waste agreed to freeze their prices at the current rate. Henry County Mayor Brent Greer says he and the commission were not against the bidding process, but they did not want citizens to have to pay higher fees that might have resulted from bidding out the contract.
