Residents Pack Fiscal Court Wanting Say in Humane Society

By Chris Taylor

Paducah, KY – Concerned area residents packed a McCracken Fiscal Courtroom last night as petitioners requested county officials put in place oversights of the county's contracted human society. The Paducah Sun reports some want to start a no-kill shelter, while others want Humane Society director Shirley Grimes to be removed. County Commissioner Zana Renfro says despite the human society's private, non-profit status, the county should have more direct input into the operation because the county subsidizes it. Judge-Executive Van Newberry promised to address concerns and suggestions at a meeting next month.
