Rand Paul on Libya military action: lawmakers should be 'outraged'

Frankfort, KY – U.S. Senator Rand Paul says President Obama did not adequately consult Congress before authorizing military action in Libya. The Kentucky Republican claims lawmakers on both sides of the aisle should be outraged by the lack of communication.

Paul says the President's commitment to helping enforce the United Nations' "no fly zone" in Libya without a dialogue with Congress is hard to understand.

"December 7th, 1941 we were attacked and the President declared war and we had session within 24 hours. On 911 we were attacked by people coming from Afghanistan, we met within three days and had a use of authorization. I think there's a problem with sort of saying it's okay to declare that the president can go to war after he's already done it."

Paul says that's why the Constitution authorizes only Congress to declare war.
