Former cemetery owner charged in trust fund thefts

By Todd Hatton/Paducah Sun

Metropolis, IL – The former owner of a Metropolis cemetery faces 11 felony charges over allegations he took more than 153 thousand dollars paid in advance for people's final expenses. Gary Towler is scheduled to be in court April 12. He remains free on a 10 thousand dollar bond. Towler faces fifteen years in jail for the two most serious charges. The Paducah Sun reports prosecutors believe Towler took the money between January 2004 and February 2008. Defense attorney Del Pruitt says he plans to enter not guilty pleas on all charges.
