Richmond, KY – The just released ad talks about what's called intrusive government that's stifled job creation and the need for strong conservative leadership. Don Gross, chair of the University of Kentucky's political science department, says the first ad often introduces the candidate to voters.
"I mean Williams has the advantage that he doesn't have to worry a lot about that. Most people in the state of Kentucky, if they've been paying any attention to politics they have some rough idea of who David Williams is," said Gross.
Current Democratic Governor Steve Beshear has no primary opposition. While he may not be highlighted in a TV ad right now, Gross says the governor doesn't want to be left out.
"You don't want to get in one of these circumstances where people are talking so much about the Republican campaign and the fight over who's gonna be the nominee, that people just sort of forget that there's this Democratic governor out there right now," added Gross.
Louisville businessman Phil Moffett and Jefferson county clerk Bobbi Holsclaw are also seeking the republican nomination. University of Kentucky political scientist, Don Gross believes Williams is the favorite.
"People always prefer the least competition. You know I think Moffett is somewhat hoping that he can pull a Rand Paul and beat the establishment. His number one problem is he doesn't have a father with all the connections that Rand Paul had," said Gross.
Lexington attorney Gatewood Galbraith is running as an independent.
