Extra Time to File Will Unlikely Affect Return Amounts

By Ron Smith

Frankfort, KY – The filing deadline for federal and state tax returns is next Monday. It would typically be this Friday, April 15th, but a federal holiday in Washington gives filers three additional days to get returns in. Mack Gillim with the state department of revenue says the extra three days may not mean a big boost in the overall number of returns in April

"The actual number of returns filed through the 18th will probably be equivalent to what it was last year. There will be just more of them coming in right at the last minute."

Gillim says the refund checks are averaging just over $381 this year, compared to $390 last year.
