Lexington, KY – A new survey indicates that small businesses are less upbeat about the economy than they were earlier this year. Tom Underwood, the state director of the National Federation of Business in Kentucky, says fuel prices and uncertainty about healthcare are taking a toll.
"Well we're seeing small businesses seeing some signs of life out there in the economy, but they're still struggling with a lot of issues. And they've got a lot of concerns as far as what they think is going to happen with the economy."
Underwood says the latest readings in the NFIB Small Optimism Index are consistent with recession-level readings. However, he says there has been an increase in optimism regarding employment.
