Frankfort, KY – As part of his Smart Government Initiative, Gov. Beshear is selling a twin-engine,1975 Piper Navajo and a single-engine, 1967 Cessna Skyhawk. Beshear says the planes, on display in a Capital City Airport hangar, will be offered for sale on eBay.
"Because overall use of the air fleet has declined during my administration, I'm confident we can do without these planes, while making a little money and saving the more than $63,000 a year it costs to maintain and insure these two aircraft."
The governor would not predict how much revenue the planes may raise, but says the state's reserve price must be met before they will be sold. Since 2009, Beshear says the state has raised nearly $630,000 in revenue from eBay auctions of surplus state property.
