Damage to Murray/Calloway's Power 10x Greater than Ice Storm

By Chris Taylor

Murray, KY – Murray Emergency Management officials estimate damage to the city's power infrastructure to be ten times worse than the 2009 ice storm. Calloway County has around 5,800 outages after restoring power to some 1,200 customers overnight. Some 2,000 Murray Electric customers remain without power. Officials say repairs will require many hours to restore electricity and have called in support from area agencies. Some customers may be without power for up to two days. Three circuits in the city's northwest and southwest corners remain down.

Officials warn power outages may be affecting some traffic light intersections. If so, treat those as a four-way stop.

High winds, some gusting up to 101 miles per hour, uprooted hundreds of area trees and caused structural damage to local homes and business.
