Frankfort, KY – Three Kentucky state lawmakers have reimbursed the state treasury for wages received during a special legislative session recess last month. Senators Bob Leeper of Paducah and Jack Westwood of Erlanger both returned their pay, as did Louisville Democratic Representative Jim Wayne. They returned the money reasoning that since they didn't earn the pay, they shouldn't keep it. The state Constitution requires lawmakers to be issued checks, even though the House's adjournment while the Senate was in recess left the legislature in limbo for about two weeks last month. The period is estimated to have cost the Commonwealth more than $600,000.
