Hearing Will Decide Whether Levee Blows

By Angela Hatton

Cape Girardeau, MO – A federal hearing is ongoing as a judge decides whether to allow the U-S Corps of Engineers to breach a levee in Missouri. The state of Missouri has filed a petition to stop the break, which would potentially contaminate 130-thousand acres of farmland. Officials in Alexander County, Illinois, say releasing the levee would alleviate the record flooding in their county. Hundreds of residents have left Cairo as waters continue to rise on the Ohio and Mississippi rivers.
