Henderson, KY – Around 400 Kentucky National Guard Troops and 100 vehicles are deployed in six western counties to help with various needs surrounding flooding. Deputy Public Affairs Director David Altom says troops are working at the county Emergency Management Directors request for sandbagging or other duties.
"In Henderson we had soldiers from the 75th troop command, they were there doing patrols to protect property as people were pulling out of their homes. We've also had roving patrols in Fulton County with Humvees. We are working with law enforcement and first responders to ensure the safety of all the homes in all these different counties."
Altom says this troop call-up pales in comparison to the 4000 troops called up during the 2009 ice storm. He says some counties may call for more troops as rivers and streams reach their crest levels this week.
