Smithland, KY – The levee at Smithland continues to hold, though emergency management officials are concerned about the future. Emergency Manager David Koon says the sandy ground under the levee is liquefied from the flood waters. Volunteers have added gravel to the sand on the surface to prevent water from bubbling up. Koon says it's still possible the levee will give way from the shifting ground. Koon says the National Guard is performing wellness checks on people stranded in the county. He says many people are refusing to leave their homes.
