West Kentucky Residents Return home after Flooding

By Chad Lampe

Murray, KY – Governor Steve Beshear today authorized a shift in emergency response operations as the Ohio and Mississippi rivers recede. Some evacuated families will be allowed to return home soon. Emergency officials are transitioning resources to damage assessment and cleanup efforts. Lisa McManus will return to her McCracken County home only to retrieve what is salvageable.

"I don't think I'd ever want to live here. Even if it was fixed. Because that security that I would have of being at my home, is gone. That would be constantly on your mind, the devastation."

McManus was with Community Correspondent J.J. Leatherman in Reidland. In Hickman residents are returning to their homes following a mandatory evacuation last week. The city and the lower area of Hickman are now open to the public. Only Sutton and Sycamore roads and the levee remain restricted to the public. The National Guard will remain a presence in the city for safety and security of all that are affected by the flood.
