Plea Prevents Trial in Baby in Oven Case

By Todd Hatton/Paducah Sun

Paducah, KY – A Reidland man accused of placing his infant son in a cold over has pleaded guilty days before his trial was to start. Larry Christopher Long entered an Alford plea last week and will be sentenced June 1st. An Alford plea means the defendant does not admit committing the crime but agrees there is enough evidence to convict him. The Paducah Sun reports Long told investigators he placed his then five week old son into a cold oven while under the influence of drugs in March of 2010. In exchange for Long's plea, Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Seth Hancock has recommended a two-year prison sentence.
