Bill to Curb Teachers' Bargaining Rights Advances

By Associated Press

Nashville, TN – A proposal to curb Tennessee teachers' collective bargaining rights is once again advancing in the state House. The House Education Committee voted Tuesday to send the proposal on to the House Finance Committee. The Education Committee was reopened when the measure came back after an amendment to do away with bargaining rights was added. The addition was withdrawn Tuesday and the bill was voted out in its original form, which would shield certain areas from union bargaining but not do away with negotiations altogether. The companion bill, which repeals bargaining, passed the Senate earlier this month.
