Frankfort, KY – New census data shows that changes in Kentucky's population mirror that of the nation, with residents since 2000 becoming older, living in less traditional households and renting rather than owning. The numbers made public last week for 13 states were the first in-depth numbers on general population and housing released for the 2010 census. Kentucky's population rose to just over 4 point 3 million, an almost 7 and a half percent increase. Women in the Commonwealth tend to be older than men, though the average ages for both increased, with women averaging a little over 39 and men at almost 37. Those living in traditional husband-wife households decreased to less than half the population and renters increased slightly to 31 percent.
