Tennessee's Lacking Tech Degrees

By Chris Taylor / Associated Press

Nashville, TN – A study finds a gap between degrees issued by Tennessee's colleges and universities and the state's tech sector job market. The Tennessee Higher Education Commission study finds about twice as many job openings for computer programmers and software developers are projected to be available through 2018 compared to the number of expected graduates. On the other hand, the study also finds Tennessee schools will produce 13 journalism graduates per job available and produce twice as many mental health counselors per position available.
