Paducah, KY – US Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell questioned Energy Secretary Steven Chu at a Capitol Hill committee meeting yesterday on the status of the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant. Chu has said the D-O-E has no plan for re-enriching uranium tails' at the plant. Those are cylinders of depleted uranium that, McConnell points out, can be re-enriched to make a profit for the government. McConnell asked Chu about the plant's future and funding for cleanup once the D-O-E ceases operations at the site. Chu replied he would get back to McConnell.
