Kentucky – The Kentucky Office of Employment and Training released figures today showing the statewide April unemployment rate at 10 percent. This is down from 10.2 percent in March. Analyst Justine Detzel says this is the fourth consecutive month for growth in non-farm employment. The manufacturing sector reported the biggest gain during April in jobs at 2,500 while the government sector reported 1,600 jobs lost. Kentucky joblessness is still higher than Illinois, which dropped to 8.7 percent for April, and Tennessee, which rose slightly to 9.6 percent.
