Paducah, KY – McCracken County School officials heard concerns from teachers and parents yesterday regarding a plan to cut jobs for the next academic year. Superintendent Nancy Waldrop says due to financial insecurity and a decrease in the number of students requiring special education, 38 full-time teaching positions and one part-time job need to be cut from the payroll. Kentucky Education Association representatives along with teachers, parents and children filled the central office boardroom in opposition to the cuts. McCracken County Education Association President Charlotte Benton tells the Paducah Sun she is seeking a re-evaluation of the board's personnel decisions before filing any grievances or lawsuits on members' behalf.
