Kentucky – Kentucky state offices will close this Friday for the fiscal year's sixth and final furlough day. It's part of a budget balancing plan to save taxpayers approximately $24 million and prevent hundreds of layoffs. A limited number of state offices will remain open or partially open the Friday before Memorial Day, and emergency response teams will be standing by. Exempted from the furlough are mental health personnel at state-run mental health facilities, corrections officers and medical personnel at prisons, and the Kentucky State Police. No furlough days have yet been scheduled for Fiscal Year 2012.
