Paducah, KY – Debating whether or not to legalize the sale of fireworks within Paducah's city borders headlined yesterday's city meeting. Officials will vote June 14th on a measure to permit the sale and discharge of fireworks, which was previously illegal under state law. Paducah Fire Chief Steve Kyle says he's not in favor of fireworks, but changing the local law will provide some control over how fireworks are used and sold there to ensure safety. The new ordinance proposes to allow fireworks to be sold to legal adults and only to be discharged within a specific time frame on July 3 through July 5 and December 31 through January 2nd.
