Congressman Rogers Says, "More Disaster Relief"

By Dan Conti

Washington, D.C. – Kentucky Congressman Hal Rogers says more money needs to be committed to disaster relief. The Kentucky Republican believes a billion dollars in unspent money from the Department of Energy should be moved into disaster assistance while savings are sought in other areas. Rogers chairs the House Appropriations and Revenue Committee and he says that's just what his panel is recommending.

"Over the past few weeks, Mother Nature has wreaked havoc across our Midwest and South, and other parts of the country, demonstrating the need for sufficient disaster relief funding. I'm proud that we have added a billion dollars to the disaster relief fund, while completing offsetting this increase by taking unused funding from the Department of Energy."

Congressman Rogers made his comments on the house floor Wednesday. He calls President Obama's disaster relief budget "overtly inadequate."
