Graves County, KY – A state court has denied the appeal of nine Graves County Amish men convicted in 2008 of failing to display fluorescent triangles on their horse-drawn buggies. The Kentucky Court of Appeals unanimously dismissed the claim that the safety triangles inhibit the men's religious practices. Senior Judge Ann O'Malley Shake wrote in the court's opinion that even though the freedom to express and exercise one's religious beliefs is held in high esteem, such practices cannot infringe on the rights and safety of the public. The Paducah Sun reports the nine men are members of an Old Amish sect that avoids vibrant colors and worldly symbols.
