More Disaster Assistance Requested for Flood-Affected Counties in Illinois

By Associated Press

Springfield, IL – Illinois Governor Pat Quinn has formally asked the federal government to help communities recover from this spring's devastating floods in southern Illinois. Quinn's request seeks reimbursement for local governments in 21 counties, including Alexander, Gallatin, Hardin, Massac, Pope, and Pulaski. Damage estimates are at more than $20 million across the region, and cleanup continues as the water reaches normal stages. The state asked for aid for residents and businesses late last month, and officials are still waiting for a response. The state declared a disaster in the area in April.
