Cadiz, KY – The Kentucky Department of Parks may begin selling alcohol as early as this summer at parks located in wet counties. Lake Barkley State Resort is one of five eligible locations. Spokesman Gil Lawson says the parks department has put notice in local newspapers, the first step in a liquor license application.
"One point I want to stress is we're not talking about establishing bars or lounges. We are talking about providing alcoholic beverages with a meal or some other social setting such as a wedding, or a meeting or something like that, or around a golf."
Lawson says the department doesn't plan to hire more employees to sell liquor, but he says current employees will be trained to serve alcoholic drinks. Liquor sales were among the recommendations in a study last year, which outlined revenue options for Kentucky's parks.
