Purchase, Pennyrile, Ky. – Western Kentucky communities and organizations are getting nearly $500,000 in recycling and household hazardous waste grants. The money comes from the Kentucky Pride Fund, administered by the Energy and Environment Cabinet's Division of Waste Management. The funds will help expand recycling, reduce solid waste, and manage household hazardous waste. The Pennyrile Regional Recycling Corporation received the most substantial grant in the region at more than $70,000, followed by the City of Paducah/McCracken County Fiscal Court at more than $40,000. The Kentucky Pride Fund is funded through the $1.75 fee for each ton of municipal solid waste disposed of in Kentucky landfills. Statewide grants amounted to $3.5 million.
