Murray, Ky – Murray's Architectural Review Board has denied a request by First Baptist Church to replace 52 stained glass windows. City Planner Candace Dowdy says the board voted unanimously Monday night to deny the request because it would significantly alter the historic building. Murray Main Street officials say the building is on the National Registry of Historic Places, and can't undergo cosmetic changes. But the church's senior pastor Sam Rainer [RAY-nur] says the Kentucky Heritage Foundation has no record of the church on the list. Rainer says the windows are more than 80 years old, and the lead that holds the glass in place is beginning to deteriorate. Rainer says the church body will likely decide what to do at their July business meeting.
