Tennessee – Violent and property-related crimes are down in Tennessee, but drug and disorderly conduct cases are up. The data comes from a newly released decade-long study from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Property crimes have decreased by nine percent while assault, murder and sex cases decreased less than a percent. Liquor law violations, trespassing and disorderly conduct increased by more than 150 percent. Drug cases have surged 45 percent since 2001. Domestic violence cases have grown by more than 17 percent. TBI spokesperson Kristin Helm says the report represents an overall look at data from law enforcement agencies across the state, from the Tennessee Highway Patrol to local law enforcement, to colleges and universities.
