Louisville, KY – Officials at Churchill Downs are assessing the damage and cleaning up debris from severe weather that struck the track last night. Spokesman John Asher says it was confirmed by a National Weather Service meteorologist that the track was hit by a tornado.
"Probably an F-0, which is up to 110 miles per hour in terms of wind
speed, or F-1, which would be, I think the range is 110 to 120. But definitely
a tornado, which touched down at the racetrack and damaged a good
number of barns."
No people or horses were injured. Today's race card was cancelled, but Friday's night racing card will go off as scheduled.
