County Clerk Sues Fiscal Court on Taxpayer Dime

By Angela Hatton

Paducah, KY – McCracken County Clerk Jeff Jerrell is suing the fiscal court, and paying for it with excess fees from the clerk's office. The West Kentucky Star reports Jerrell's lawsuit alleges it's illegal to force the clerk's office to convert to the fee pool system. The fiscal court recently adopted the system, which would force the clerk's office to turn all fees collected over to the treasurer's office each month. Jerrell previously managed his own budget, and then turned over surplus at the end of the year. Commissioner Zana Renfro questions the legality of Jerrell using taxpayer money to foot his lawyer's bill. The county has yet to respond to the suit.
