Murray, KY – Elementary Schools across Kentucky will have access to fresh fruits and vegetables this school year thanks to a federal program initiated by the USDA. The Federal Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) awarded the state $2.65 million to provide fresh produce to elementary school students throughout their school day. More than 50,000 children in 128 of the 800 elementary schools in Kentucky will benefit from this program. In order to be selected schools were required to have at least half of their students enrolled in the free or reduced-price meal program. Among those schools selected were Farley in Marshall County and both Cuba and Fancy Farm in Graves County.
