Frankfort, KY – The National Education Association has named Kentucky's Steve Beshear America's Greatest Education Governor. The annual award recognizes governors who have made "major, state-level strides" to improve public schools. NEA President Dennis Van Roekel says Beshear has shown unwavering support for students and educators despite budget cuts that hit nearly every area of state government. Beshear says he believes the most important investment a state can make is in education. He says that's why he fought hard to protect basic funding for Kentucky classrooms despite nine rounds of budget cuts since he took office. Beshear will receive the award Sunday in Chicago.
