Dyer County, TN – May flooding in Dyer County, Tennessee is estimated to have caused about $5 million in damage. Dyer County Emergency Management Director James Medling says the unincorporated areas of the county took the brunt of this year's flood. Damage to city properties was estimated to be only about $139,000. Last year's flooding caused an estimated $10 million in damage, with much of that inside Dyersburg city limits. The $5 million total for this year doesn't reflect the damage done to highways, farmland or the levee system in Dyer County. Medling says that could add millions more to the total. He says the county got lucky this year in that many of the hardest-hit areas were sparsely populated.
