Springfield, IL – Illinois Governor Pat Quinn has signed legislation state officials say will give residents more power when it comes to elections. Quinn signed an election reform law that will allow local school boards to put non-binding advisory referendums on the ballot. It also increases voting access for service members by letting ballots be emailed to military voters overseas. Election officials will also have to make ballots available for military personnel at least 46 days before a federal election. Quinn says he chose to sign the bill on the Fourth of July because it's a day to celebrate democracy. The law takes effect January 1st.
