Paducah, KY – Students new to Kentucky public schools, and some incoming sixth-grade students, may face a few more shots to comply with new state immunization requirements. New vaccine regulations require shots for pneumonia, meningitis, and chicken pox, among others. Immunizations for these illnesses were mandatory, however new regulations may require vaccine boosters as children reach the sixth grade. Purchase District Health Department Director Charlie Ross tells the Paducah Sun most children will not be affected by the changes since many area pediatricians have followed these guidelines for some time. Changes should mainly affect students new to Kentucky, or those who have opted out of vaccinations.
