Haslam Plans Proactive 2nd Session

By Associated Press

Nashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam says he plans to take a more proactive approach when the General Assembly meets next year after struggling to catch up with the flood of legislative initiatives in his first session. Bill Haslam says he plans to take a more proactive approach when the General Assembly meets next year after struggling to catch up with the flood of legislative initiatives in his first session. The Republican governor says that when he took office in mid-January, assembling a Cabinet and crafting his first annual state spending proposal dominated his agenda. By the time he turned his attention to the legislative process, it was already plowing ahead at full steam. Haslam likens the situation to a football game where he was just arriving at the locker room and the rest of the team was already lining up for the kickoff. In the governor's words, ''They were ready to go."
