GOP Governors Group Airs Ad Bashing Beshear

By Associated Press

Frankfort, KY – The Republican Governors Association is trying to link Kentucky's struggling job market to Democratic Governor Steve Beshear in a new television ad aimed at helping Republican challenger David Williams. The ad claims Kentucky lost 94,000 jobs in four years and says Williams has the experience to boost employment. RGA spokesman Mike Schrimpf calls it a significant, statewide ad buy. Democrats say the ad is misleading by claiming Williams fought wasteful state spending. State Democratic Party Chairman Dan Logsdon says the legislative budget has increased 32 percent since Williams has been state Senate president. Kentucky's jobless rate in May fell to just under 10 percent, the first time it's been below double digits since early 2009. Kentucky has been hard hit by the deep national recession and the sluggish recovery.
