Murray, KY – An excessive heat warning remains in effect until 9 this evening. With increased demands on air conditioners, West Kentucky Rural Electric spokesperson Jamie Sears advises residents on the most efficient way to use their a/c.
"Its better not to adjust your heat pump more than two degrees up or down at one time. If you do that it may cause your heat pump to switch to emergency or auxiliary heat to deal with that load, especially when the air is so hot outside."
Sears says that the largest loss of efficiency comes from hot air from outdoors seeping indoors. She encourages homeowners to make sure that their house is well-insulated to save both money and power.
