Frankfort, KY – The Kentucky Public Service Commission is reminding people that stealing copper can create grave hazards for the thieves. Officials in eastern Kentucky say a 22-year-old man was electrocuted last week while trying to take copper from an East Kentucky Power Cooperative facility in McCreary County. The PSC says the activity also leads to utility service disruptions. PSC Chairman David Armstrong says the perpetrators are at risk, but so too are utility employees and members of the public. The agency notes that copper theft started increasing as prices for the material began to rise about five years ago.
