Murray, KY – Graves County farmers are experiencing their best wheat crop on record. Graves County Ag Extension Agent Kenny Perry says farmers across the county are reporting average yields of 80 bushels per acre, compared to a year-to-year average of 50 bushels per acre. Perry says heavy rainfall similar to what the region endured this spring is typically not good for planting wheat. However Perry says the drier and warmer conditions which came later in the season created an ideal situation for wheat production. He calls the record yields a "pleasant surprise."
