Murray, KY – The Murray Independent School Board has passed a measure that will ban the use of tobacco by administration, teachers and staff on school property. The board voted unanimously in a special session Wednesday to accept the measure proposed by the Kentucky Department of Education in conjunction with the state Department of Public Health. The ban will take effect on January 1st, 2012. Murray Independent School District Superintendent Bob Rogers says the board chose January in order to allow time for staff to attempt to quit smoking. The district's current policy is to allow staff to smoke on school campuses in designated areas.
