Frankfort, KY – More Kentucky homes are being rented or sitting empty. This is according to data from the 2010 US Census. Renter-occupied housing accounts for 31 percent of all homes, as opposed to 29 percent in 2000, and 11 percent of Kentucky homes are vacant, up from 9.2 percent ten years earlier. Lydia Pritchard, a spokesperson for Housing Partnership Incorporated, says that while Kentucky has not been as hard hit by the struggling housing market as many other states have, foreclosure rates are up and it is still difficult for families to make ends meet.
