State View on Debt Debate

By KPR

Frankfort, KY – As the clock ticks down toward the debt ceiling deadline, the view from two Kentucky state lawmakers echoes familiar comments heard in the nation's capital. House Speaker Pro Tem Larry Clark supports a cut and selected tax approach.

"They need to reduce spending and raise revenue. There's no reason why the weathiest ten percent of America cannot share with all the other Americans in reducing our debt and saving America."

Senator Damon Thayer of Georgetown believes the emphasis should stay on the spending side of the ledger.

"I think most Americans understand that you can't spend more than we take in and we can't keep running up the credit card."

Thayer contends the budget dilemma in Washington doesn't reflect poorly on the political system. He says those on Capitol Hill should stick with their convictions. Clark says the American people are "very disgusted and they should be."
