Daviess County, KY – Daviess County officials doubt many people will notice the changes under way to make county buildings compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. But for those with disabilities, the upgrades prodded by the U.S. Justice Department could make a big difference. The county reached a settlement agreement this week with the department. The intent is to make it easier for the disabled to get into and around the courthouse, judicial center and other buildings. County official David Smith says the upgrades are mostly "cosmetic." Some changes will make it easier for the disabled to get a drink of water and use the restrooms. Officials once fretted the changes could cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, but now hope the price tag will be in the tens of thousands.
