Murray, KY – Kentucky has updated immunization guidelines prior to the start of the school year. The updated requirements took effect this month and include a number of changes to the previous standards. The Madisonville Messenger reports these include a new HIB vaccination, a second dose of Chickenpox for 4 year-olds and sixth graders will be required to receive a vaccine that prevents bacterial meningitis. Children are also required to receive a second dose of the Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccine instead of others that protect only against measles. Parents are encouraged to contact their local health departments for more information regarding the new guidelines.
