Frankfort, KY – Starting today Kentucky school teachers will have access to a new system that will help them implement the Common Core State Standards. The program is called the Continuous Instructional Improvement Technology System, or CIITS (sits). It's a computer program that helps Kentucky teachers follow the new English and math standards that go into effect this year. Right now teachers can choose whether they want to use it. But eventually...
"Teachers will be able to see how their students are doing, they'll be able to look at formidable assessments, which are assessments that gauge how a student is doing in a particular subject and see where they may need help or enrichment."
That's Rebecca Blessing with the Kentucky Department of Education. She says the program is capable of tracking student progress within the common core standards, and could be used to show where learning gaps exist, so teachers can then target a specific student's needs. Kentucky purchased a one year contract for the system for $4.4 million dollars.
