Murray, KY – Area police departments are going online using an eWarrant system. Chief Deputy Danny Zickefoose of the Fulton County Sheriff's Office says the speed of the system will eliminate the window of opportunity for those with warrants out to evade police.
As it stands right now, when a warrant is issued, even when the judge sitting on the bench issues a bench warrant, it takes about a week or longer before there is an actual paper copy in the office that can be served. Under the eWarrant system when they type it into the computer, it will automatically go into the judges' computer for him to electronically sign it.
Zickefoose says that after the warrant is electronically signed the information is instantly made available to all departments in the state that use the eWarrant system. Last week departments in Ballard, Carlisle, Hickman, and Fulton counties made the change to a digital warrant system.
