David Williams gets Indirect Help from Dad

By Associated Press

Frankfort, KY – David Williams' father-in-law has made a $1 million dollar contribution to the Republican Governor's Association. Reports surfaced yesterday that Terry Stephens, who owns Stephens Pipe and Steel, made the contribution on June 22. Stephens says that he is not in the habit of making such large contributions, but "David is family." He says he knows that the RGA can't earmark his donation for the Kentucky campaign, so his contribution was made "on faith." Democratic Party Chairman Dan Logsdon says this is an illegal activity because campaign contributions can't be targeted for specific purposes. The RGA says even before Stephens' contribution, it planned to be aggressively involved in the Kentucky race, 1 of only four in the nation this year.
